ECKHART WEBSITE: A HOMEGROWN SUCCESS STORY LEAPS ON-LINE

Ch’town – (August 1, 2001) – ECKHART, the brave little mouse who has won the hearts of children the world over can now be enjoyed on the web through the launch of an entertaining online environment for kids: www.eckhartonline.com. Building on the popularity of the animated series, this site invites fans of the series to play and learn while interacting with their favorite characters in beautiful, magical Prince Edward Island.

The site, www.eckhartonline.com, was produced by Cellar Door Productions of Charlottetown, P.E.I. and Catalyst Entertainment of Toronto, Ontario, and built by Virtual Media Productions Inc. of Sydney, Cape Breton. “The website has stayed true to the TV show in that every section incorporates some lesson for kids to learn, and most importantly have fun at the same time”, says Angela Campbell, Producer, Cellar Door Productions. “It is another first for ECKHART and the Island” says Gretha Rose, President of Cellar Door. “Eckhartonline.com is one of the largest animated web sites in the world and the first of its kind to be created in Atlantic Canada”.

Kids can interact with the characters on what is largely a “storytelling” site all while creating their own stories, adventures and even puppet shows. Games featured on the site encourage childhood development through on and off-line activities such as the Barnyard Blowout Party Planner, ABCs and 123s as well as digital postcards, a colouring book and exciting downloads. An ever changing site, the activities will continually be updated with new activities that encourage return visits. The site is also an excellent resource for teachers and caregivers.

“Kids love the stories on ECKHART because they’re tales of adventure and discovery. We wanted the same balance on the website: stories and games that invite kids to join in the adventure and discover things for themselves,” says Lynn Suderman, New Media Manager, Catalyst Entertainment Inc. The television series, which can be seen daily at 9:30am EST on TeleTOON, is currently in production on season three, bringing the series to 39 episodes. The series is now seen by viewers globally in France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, the Middle East, Poland, Germany and Australia.

ECKHART is A Cellar Door/Catalyst Entertainment Inc., /Animation Services (Hong Kong) Co-Production.
