Charlottetown, PEI – September 22, 2008 – Co-producers Cellar Door Productions (Prince Edward Island) and Ocean Entertainment (Nova Scotia), in partnership with Chef Michael Smith, are pleased to announce the launch of the fourth television series in the successful Chef Michael Smith brand - CHEF ABROAD – premiering October 3rd at 9pm ET on Food Network. CHEF ABROAD will transport you to exotic locales all over the globe. The back alleys of Cairo, the deserts of Jordan, the wilds of Botswana, the heaving deck of an aircraft carrier, and even north of the Arctic Circle in Sweden. Join Chef Michael Smith in South Africa as he helps create and serve an exquisite formal dinner hundreds of feet in the air over the beautiful beaches of Cape Town. Travel deep into the lush countryside of Botswana and meet the guides and cooks behind the scenes of a luxury Safari camp. Ride a camel into the deserts of Jordan searching for ancient hospitality and a Bedouin tribe. Follow a bluefin tuna from the waters off Prince Edward Island, to the world’s largest fish market in Japan, then onto the sushi tables of Tokyo. "I'm on the journey of a lifetime,” says Smith, “seeking culinary adventure and gaining insight and discovering new ideas all over the world!" Michael Smith is Canada’s best known chef and a long time fixture on Food Network. His shows are seen in more than 70 countries around the world. His Chef and television career began at Prince Edward Island’s The Inn at Bay Fortune the setting for his first television series, THE INN CHEF which debuted in 1998. CHEF AT LARGE was his next adventure beginning in 2001. In 2002, Smith won the James Beard Award for his one-hour special SATURDAY NIGHT. In 2004, CHEF AT HOME began airing on Food Network and has been an audience favourite ever since.
