Chef at Home Wins Gemini for ‘Best Direction’ in Lifestyle Series
Cellar Door Productions (PEI), along with Ocean Entertainment Ltd. (NS) are pleased to announce that Director Trevor Grant was awarded ‘Best Direction’ in a Lifestyle/Practical Information Program or Series for the successful food series ‘Chef at Home’ with Chef Michael Smith at the 21st Annual Gemini Awards last night in Toronto.

“We are extremely excited about the recognition of not only Trevor’s work but of the entire ‘Chef at Home’ series,” says Johanna Eliot, President of Ocean Entertainment and co-producer of the series. “This acknowledgement reinforces the fact that this series is one of the best in Canada.”

‘Chef at Home’ inspires and empowers home cooks to improvise, venture beyond recipes, and learn how to instinctively create flavourful, simple food for family and friends. The series is currently in production on its fourth season and will celebrate the shooting of its 105th episode when it raps shooting on PEI in December.

Gretha Rose, President of Cellar Door and co-producer of the series alongside Eliot says that Grant’s win reinforces the popularity and depth of the series. “This award clearly indicates that we are at the top of our game and providing our viewers with a distinctly refreshing and unique program.”

Grant from Regina, Saskatchewan, has directed numerous television series, documentaries, music and children’s shows. His programs have aired with a variety of broadcasters such as the CBC Network, Food Network, Discovery Channel, Global, Vision, the Children’s Television Workshop (PBS), as well as internationally. He is also an award winning producer/director with such awards as the Chris Award in Columbus, OH; Golden Sheaf Award at the Yorkton Film Festival; CTNDA Awards; as well as nominations with organizations such as the James Beard Awards.

Although Grant is certainly appreciative of the award, he pays tribute to the show’s fantastic team. “I don’t feel this should be really mine because it is honestly a key team show. I work with incredible people and this award is a result of hard work by the entire group.”

‘Chef at Home’ is one of five television productions featuring Chef Michael Smith. Chef Michael’s programs can be found on Food Network in Canada, Discovery Home in the United States, Asian Food Channel in Japan, XYZ in Australia, Living Channel in New Zealand, as well as the BBC in various countries, and various other territories around the world.

The Gemini Awards honour outstanding achievements in Canadian Film and Television. Its mandate is to heighten public awareness and increase audience attendance and appreciation of Canadian Film and Television productions. It also works to encourage the highest standards of film and television production in Canada
