Chef At Home – A Hit with Aspiring Home Cooks
Chef At Home – A Hit with Aspiring Home Cooks

May 2, 2005, Charlottetown, PEI – Canadians can look forward to another great season of Chef Michael Smith. After rave reviews and a very successful first season, Chef Michael Smith’s Food Network Canada television series, Chef At Home, went into production for season two on Prince Edward Island this week.

Co-producers Cellar Door Productions and Ocean Entertainment, in partnership with Chef Michael Smith, are busy producing another 27 episodes, which includes a Christmas special, set to air on the Food Network this fall.

Chef At Home Season I premiered in Australia and New Zealand this spring and will be airing soon in Italy, on various BBC networks and on Discovery Home in the U.S. Also in the works is a companion cookbook to the Chef At Home series, due to hit bookstore shelves this fall.

"Chef At Home quickly became a mainstay on Food Network Canada's schedule when it debuted in October, 2004. It's 'how-to' component coupled with an entertaining glimpse into the personal life of a professional chef has consistently kept it among the top-rated programs on the network," says Karen Gelbart, Vice President of Programming, Food Network Canada.

"Michael Smith's enthusiasm and genuine passion for cooking truly resonates with our viewers and empowers them to develop their own cooking style."

Each week, Smith invites viewers into his home kitchen to show them how to create simple, flavourful meals for family and friends. He improvises a meal from what he finds in his own fridge and pantry and shows aspiring home cooks how to confidently choose flavours and ingredients that taste great together, while revealing the secrets behind his simple cooking techniques.

“I’m thrilled that viewers want to see me do what I enjoy the most – cooking for my family and friends,” says Smith. “This new season promises to be even more fun as we encourage viewers to be playful in their own kitchens.”

Chef At Home, Season II, will air in October and is produced in association with Food Network Canada, Nova Scotia Film Development Corporation, and Technology PEI. Chef At Home currently airs weekdays at 6:30 p.m., Saturdays at 12:30 p.m. and Sundays at 6:00 p.m., ET.

Smith is an award-winning television host. His current credits include Chef at Large, now entering its fifth season, on Food Network Canada and The Inn Chef, which debuted in 1998 and currently airs on Prime. In 2002, Smith’s one-hour special, Saturday Night, won the James Beard Award for Best Cooking Show or Special.
